Hi, I’m Layne — and I’ve always had this slightly unhinged dream of owning a hotel. Like, full-on Schitt’s Creek energy but with better spa vibes. For years it felt impossible… until earlier this year when I went to Hawai‘i hunting for land to build a wellness retreat. (Long story short: I wanted the kind of space I desperately needed when I was recovering from my injury — you can read that whole saga here.)

That trip cracked something open. I realized I don’t just want to build a retreat. I want to build the retreat — designed with, by, and for the exact people who will actually use it. Why guess what the “target audience” wants when you can literally build it with them from the ground up?

Since then I’ve been living in spreadsheets, investor meetings, and “can we actually afford this?” conversations. The biggest hurdles? Where the heck do we do this, how do we find it, and how do we pay for it? Spoiler: investors pay way more attention when there’s a community already behind you. Every pledge basically says, “Yep, this isn’t just Layne’s fever dream, we’re serious about this too.”

This won’t be a beige “wellness hotel” with sad cucumber water. Nope. We’re talking a massive indoor/outdoor spa, hotel, and community hub. The property we’ve got our eye on is $60 million (yes, million with an M) — which is terrifying but also iconic — and if it works, we’d be the largest outdoor spa in North America and the first fully female-founded, female-funded, and female-owned hospitality group. Potentially also one of the first community-funded hotel chains, which feels kinda historic if you ask me.

Big goal? Yep. But here’s the thing: every wild idea I’ve had — from running a travel company to launching a wellness studio — somehow worked out. Turns out if you’re just delulu enough (and good at Instagram), crazy ideas become real.

So yeah. That’s the vibe. Wanna help me build it?

Let’s be honest — the wellness industry has lost the plot.

Somewhere between the protein bros, the “that girl” routines, and the $30 adaptogenic lattes, wellness stopped being about feeling well and turned into a competition.
Everyone’s trying to out-freeze, out-sweat, and out-grind each other in the name of “self-care.”

Most of these spaces were designed by men — and it shows.
They’ve turned recovery into another sport. A leaderboard. A race to see who can hold their breath the longest in an ice bath.

But that’s not wellness. That’s stress with better lighting.

We don’t need another hyper-optimized, performance-driven wellness brand. We need to bring it back down to earth — to the kind of wellness that actually matters. The kind that makes you feel human again.

Preventive wellness is everything. Sure, post-workout recovery is cool — but you can’t “recover” if you never built a foundation of health in the first place.
Wellness isn’t the secondary. It’s the prerequisite. It’s the baseline for everything else you want to do.

We’re not here to sell ice baths and hustle culture in a prettier font.
We’re here to remind people that slowing down, resting, and reconnecting is where the real flex is.
